Dean’s Address

Welcome to the Faculty of Law, Nasarawa State University, Keffi famously known as the NSUKLAW. Our  Dr Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, Notary Publicdynamic community of leading scholars, highly qualified students, and distinguished law students’ body is constantly growing and advancing. NSUKLAW is distinctive, unique, and simply outstanding.

Our Faculty’s commitment to scholarship and teaching is unrivaled among its contemporaries. We have assembled an extraordinary group of scholars whose influence on a wide spectrum of public policy and academic issues is recognized nationally on an almost daily basis. Our Faculty members bring an unparalleled devotion to teaching and a shared goal of enabling students to succeed.

The Faculty operates a curriculum that provides students with the critical foundation in law, and also encompasses emerging issues in critical areas such as environmental, resources and intellectual property law, and in line with the requirement of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

We have a highly motivated and diverse student body made up of students from across the country that take passionate and active interest both in creating a vibrant Faculty community and in the wider community through a variety of issues and causes.

The Faculty has a world-class academic structure, featuring state-of-the-art library facilities, a fully established moot courtroom, and extraordinary spaces for studying and building community. The students’ centre which houses the Law Clinic, Moot court, students’ common room and students’ offices though still undergoing improvement will soon be a place you will want to be; during your brief leisure time of course.

Innovative academic programmes, including our highly-regarded Law Practice which exposes our students to the realities of law practice on the field and what is expected of them as legal practitioners.

Our students enjoy a wide array of Law clinics and pro bono programs that encourage them to obtain hands-on experience and represent clients, under the supervision of experienced lawyers, in civil matters and criminal cases as well as adding glow to the NSUK community in particular and Keffi city at large.

Our moot court has offered our students with the best source of practical contact exposing our students to the complex nature of criminal and civil litigation. A strong record of placing our students on the highway to quality first jobs or self reliance upon graduation, even in this challenging job market.

Our Faculty ranks one of the best in the International Air and Space Law with its remarkable and highly commendable achievement in the 2012 International Air and Space Law Moot Court Competition in Abu-Dhabi when the NSUKLAW came 6th worldwide.

At NSUK LAW, we are working towards a common goal: to become and be recognized as one of the outstanding Faculties of law in the Nigeria and the preeminent institution training lawyers for Nasarawa State which is why we have developed A TRADITION OF HARDWORK as our motto. Whether you are a prospective student, a current student, a graduate, a practitioner, or a guest, we invite you to join us and look forward to welcoming you.

For those among you that will eventually become part of this amazing community, our rules and codes of ethics are meant to be respected and practiced, and not ignored and trampled upon. We have introduced a system of blacklisting students who dare to exercise their new found liberty beyond the ethical limits; we will not look back when taking appropriate and stern disciplinary actions against those that may choose the path of incivility and inappropriate conduct.

Welcome to our world and we wish you a successful stay. OUR DRESS CODE IS STRICT FOR ALL FORMAL OCCASSIONS AND THE MORAL CODE FOR ALL OCCASSIONS.
